Camberwell is recognised as one of Australia’s most classically beautiful suburbs, located at the centre of Melbourne’s leafy east.

About 14 kilometres from the city, Camberwell is accessed by train (three stops at Riversdale, Willison and Hartwell) and tram along Camberwell Road and Toorak Road.

Camberwell’s retail heart is the Burke Road shopping strip, the car park of which becomes the famous Camberwell Market on weekends.

Its best streets include Rowell Avenue and in the Sunnyside Estate precinct in west Camberwell, as well as the streets along Glyndon Road and Wattle Valley Road.

In the late 1990s, the precinct east of Highfield Road and north of Toorak Road – spreading to Warrigal Road – was rezoned to become Camberwell.

Prior to that, the streets, which include tree-lined Through Road, was known as Burwood.
